I am under the weather (probably some sort of flu… stiff neck, bad sore throat, vomited, etc., not fun) and I’m not going to be able to do the show this week, so I wanted to post a note. So, I’m going to go ahead and postpone it 2 weeks to November 10. If you have any questions or suggested topics, I want to hear them, so please e-mail me. In any case, I appreciate your patience.

Audio Quality

I’ve been a little disappointed with the audio quality that I have been able to achieve, so I’ve been working on that (and spending money). After a lot of tinkering, I made a couple of changes that seem to have improved the quality of my audio in what I hope is a noticable way. The next show goes up Friday, so you can be the judge at that time. I apologize for the, at times, sub standard audio quality that I’ve produced previously. It bothers no one more than myself and I’m always trying to improve it. Thanks.

The Community Admin Show Promo (Banned User, November 2005)

As is pretty clear, I imagine, my show is one of the shows of The Podcast Network. Network hosts are encouraged to create promos for their shows as other hosts often include show promos in their own show, as I have. I first created a simple, straight forward promo, but then I had an idea for another one featuring a (pretend) banned user. I got my friend Jeremy Wright to do the voice of the banner user.

If you have any suggestions for questions that you would like me to ask the community administrators that I bring on the show, please let me know. Specific questions are encouraged. Questions like “How did you get so big?” are hard to give a strong, useful answer to. Thanks. :)

Interview Idea

I have an interview idea, the problem is that I am not sure what questions I should ask. The idea is to invite my moderators onto my show - all of the ones that have been with me for a decent period of time and ask them each 3-5 questions. I think that it is an interesting and fun idea. The problem I have is - what are the questions? I’m not sure what the questions should be. What do you think would be some interesting questions for me to ask my own staff?

Hello and welcome to The Community Admin Show - the latest podcast from The Podcast Network.

The Community Admin Show is the show for online community owners and administrators. It’s released once every two weeks and features discussions on the management and cultivation of internet communities.

My name is Patrick O’Keefe and I am your host. I have been professionally developing websites since 1998. I founded and own the iFroggy Network, an internet network featuring content, community and e-commerce sites. It receives more than 2 million pageviews a month. As part of managing my network, I also manage 7 communities, including SportsForums.net, KarateForums.com, the phpBBHacks.com Support Forums, PhotoshopForums.com, DeveloperCube, CommunityAdmins.com and the DrGregHouse.com Forums. All told, my communities total more than 600,000 posts, 80,000 threads and 30,000 registered users.

I have been managing internet communities for nearly 5 years. I have directly managed and been responsible for the success of some very active communities, including phpBBHacks.com and KarateForums.com. If it happens on an internet community, chances are that I’ve experienced it and dealt with it.

Through this podcast, I hope to share my experiences and to share the real life, in use tactics and solutions that I use on my communities on a daily basis. Each show will also feature an interview, often times with a successful community administrator. This will allow us to learn from the way that they manage their community. I also hope for listener questions to become a big part of the show. If you have a question or if you’d like some advice, please write me at patrick@ifroggy.com and I will read your e-mail on the show (and answer you before it comes out so you don’t have to wait!).
